All-State Performances for GRTC Runners

June 8th 2014 The VHSL (Virginia High School League) Group 3A/4A State Outdoor Track & Field Championships allowed many of our GRTC athletes to exhibit their skill among some of the fastest in the state. One of the most impressive performances of the meet and our team: the Lafayette’s boys’ 4x800m relay (Konrad Steck, Andrew Loper, Jason Menzies, Derek Holdsworth –ALL GRTC members when not competing for their high school –) won the Group 3A state title in meet record and state-leading time of  7:42.20. In addition to Lafayette’s 4×800 relay team members, other All-State performers included Lafayette’s Jason Menzies, who finished 2nd and 8th in the boys 3A 3200m and 1600m, respectively; Tabb High School’s Baron Kieffer, who finished 3rd in the boys 4A 3200m; Lafayette’s 3-time All-State winner Adriana Hooks, who finished 4th in the girls’ 3A 3200m and 7th in the 1600m, in addition to anchoring Lafayette girls’ 4×800 as well; 3-time All-State winner Derek Holdsworth, the boys Group 3A 800m champion and member of Lafayette’s 4×800 and 4×400 teams; York High’s Dawson Connell who placed in both the 800m and 1600; and Tabb’s sophomore star Lindsey Blanks, who paced her team to the podium in both the 4x800m relay and also scored in 1600m.
